Indonesia guide › Plan your trip to Indonesia
What are the entry requirements for Indonesia?
On top of your visa, there's just one compulsory step: the All Indonesia electronic arrival card, free, to be filled in within the 3 days before you arrive. It combines immigration, customs and the health declaration in a single form, and gives you a QR code to show at the airport.
Here's how it works, in order:
- Before you leave: your visa (see Do I need a visa for Indonesia?), then the All Indonesia card on the official website, allindonesia.imigrasi.go.id (opens in a new tab), or in the app of the same name: passport, flight, address of your first accommodation, luggage and anything to declare. Allow about ten minutes; one card per traveller, children included.
- At immigration: passport and e-VOA, through the automatic gates if your passport is biometric, or at the counter otherwise.
- At customs, after baggage claim: your QR code is scanned. Nothing to declare, green lane; otherwise, red lane.
- In Bali only: the tourist levy of 150,000 IDR (about US$8.50) per person, paid online before you fly on the official website, lovebali.baliprov.go.id (opens in a new tab), or on arrival. It doesn't apply to the rest of the country.
What customs lets in duty free, per adult:
- 1 litre of alcohol, including any bottle bought at your stopover's duty free;
- 200 cigarettes, or 25 cigars, or 100 g (3.5 oz) of tobacco;
- above that, the excess is taxed or destroyed, and you must declare any cash of 100 million IDR (about US$5,500) or more.
The list of banned items is short but serious: drugs (cannabis included, even medicinal), some psychotropic medication without a prescription, weapons and pornographic material. See Drugs, new criminal code: which Indonesian laws affect tourists?.
The All Indonesia card also applies when you arrive by sea, for example by ferry from Singapore to Batam or Bintan. It covers a single entry: fill it in again every time you cross the border.
Verdict: two online steps (visa and All Indonesia), plus the levy if you're going to Bali; all done from your sofa in twenty minutes.
Tip: fill in the All Indonesia card before you board, not in the arrivals queue: the airport network is often overloaded, and a QR code ready on your screen saves you a good half-hour.
